Every shop that is on Ippin has been vetted and undergoes an on-going monitoring process so that you do not have to deal with fraudulent merchants. These are the three steps we take to make sure that you get Japan Quality on Ippin every time, all the time:
Ippin checks the merchant’s application against records held by Japan’s National Tax Agency so that we can verify that the merchant is operating out of its registered address in Japan, and that it is a live entity. In addition, we establish a point-of-contact with the merchant to ensure that user concerns can be promptly answered when the merchant is eventually allowed to ship.
Merchants that pass the verification process are then briefed on Ippin’s security and privacy protection policies. Ippin also works with merchants to address any concerns they may have about communicating with their users (you!) in languages they may not be completely familiar with, so users can get the best possible service in the event any problems crop up during the ordering or shipping process.
Ippin does not stop at the first two steps. Instead, we take a long-term approach that goes beyond a simple user rating for each merchant. For example, we conduct randomly-sampled spot-checks to ensure that all our merchants clearly mark their products as “Made in Japan” when they are manufactured domestically, or with other countries when the product is “Designed in Japan” or “Popular in Japan”. We also monitor merchant response times to user enquiries and suspend merchants that consistently fail to respond to users.
